Ask a European or East Asian importer to name a date and you will hear Medjool, maybe Deglet Noor. Ask anyone who actually moves volume — bakery buyers, paste plants, Ramadan program planners — and the Aseel comes up fast. Pakistan is one of the world’s largest date producers, and the Aseel is the reason: a variety that delivers more usable fruit per dollar than almost anything else on the water.

What the Aseel actually is

The Aseel is a semi-dry variety grown overwhelmingly in Khairpur district, Sindh — our home. Roughly nine of every ten Pakistani Aseel dates come from this one district. The fruit is medium-sized with a distinctively small pit, which means a pitted-yield advantage that shows up directly in your cost sheet: more flesh, less waste, at a price Medjool growers can only dream about.

The numbers that matter to a buyer

• Flesh-to-pit ratio: among the best of any commercial variety — the whole reason Aseel dominates paste and dicing lines.
• Moisture: shipped in the 12–16% window, stable at sea without added preservatives.
• Sweetness: high natural sugars with a clean caramel profile that survives baking.
• Price: typically a fraction of Medjool per landed kilo, and consistently below Tunisian and Algerian Deglet Noor.
• Season: harvested July–August; with proper cold storage (we hold 5,000+ tons), available year-round.

Where Aseel wins — and where it doesn’t

Be honest with your category plan. For a premium gift box competing on fruit size, Medjool still owns the theatre. For everything else — retail pouches, food service, bakery, bars, paste, syrup, powder — the Aseel does the same job at a materially lower cost, and often does it better because the smaller fruit portions and dices more cleanly.

The sourcing caveat

The variety is only half the equation; the house you buy from is the other half. Aseel bought loose at auction, sun-dried on tarpaulins and stored ambient is a different product from Aseel grown, processed and cold-stored under one roof with Sedex, FDA, Halal and FSSC 22000 paperwork. Same variety, different risk profile. Ask your supplier who actually grew the fruit — the answer tells you everything.
